UC/Voice Lead Engineer

Team/Program Introduction

The Base-Level Information Technology Services (BLITS) program directly supports the mission of the 66th Air Base Group (66 ABG) at Hanscom Air Force Base (HAFB), Massachusetts. The objective of this program is to secure, support, and sustain information and information systems, as well as support mission success through effective and efficient service delivery. The technical services include a wide range of capabilities:
 
  • Infrastructure and Transmission Management
  • Network Operations
  • Knowledge Operations
  • Program and Financial Management’
  • Cybersecurity
  • Quality Assurance

The rapid evolution of technology and continuing changes in Air Force cyber policy, organization, and procedures requires flexibility and operational knowledge of the Air Force Information Network (AFIN). The RSC2 team will work with Air Force managers, employees, and stakeholders to provide a high level of integration to deliver quantity, complexity, and interrelatedness of the information technology services tasks. RSC2 is looking for a Unified Communications (UC)/Voice Lead Engineer to join this team.

Professional Level Information:

The UC/Voice Lead Engineer aligns as an Engineer Level 3 at RSC2. An Engineer Level 3 typically plans and directs research or development work on complex projects, along with engaging various parties in design and development. Costs and recommendations of new components may also involve part of the job scope. An Engineer Level 3 performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the project and firm. He or she oversees the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. An Engineer Level 3 has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems. He or she has strong technical skills and background, a knack for learning new technologies, and a blend of good problem-solving and innovation needed to resolve a wide variety of technical production challenges.

Functional Job (LCAT) Information:

A UC/Voice Lead Engineer plans, supports and evaluates complex voice network systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels. Specific position responsibilities include the following:
 
  • Providing highly skilled technical assistance in voice network planning, unified communication, and voice system architectures.
  • Providing and developing technical standards, identifying and evaluating new communication products, and providing solutions for voice network/communication issues.
  • Interfacing with internal/external customers and vendors to determine voice communication needs.
  • Planning and incorporating how new communication resources, applications, and services will exist on the voice networks and infrastructure.
  • Planning unified communication capacity, voice network equipment OS, version upgrades, and patches. Conducting research of new voice technologies and implementation strategies.
  • Documenting procedures and keeping voice architecture diagrams and related material up to date.
  • Handling escalated user communication (i.e., phone) problems, questions, and requests on voice network issues.
  • Working with other groups within IS to resolve communication-related issues as needed.
  • Leading and directing work of other UC/Voice Engineers.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Air Force Infrastructure Services - UC Systems Manager by performing Voice Systems Management.

Oversee and participate in the methods, processes, procedures, capabilities, tools, and resources that pertain to the operation, administration, maintenance, and provisioning of voice systems.

Maintain a list of phones in service to include associated information (e.g., users, associated phone numbers, circuit IDs, and location details (building, floor, room).

Oversee and participate in support for core voice service to include, but not limited to:
 
  • Business Voice
  • A voicemail system
  • Enterprise Faxing capability
  • Automated Call Director (ACD)
  • Secondary Crash Net is software driven audio-conferencing capability

Oversee and direct support to the following integrated services:
 
  • End-to-End Performance Monitoring
  • Situational Awareness
  • Service Request Management for voice issues
  • Service Incident Management
  • Problem Management
  • Change Management
  • Configuration Management

Certification and Requirements:

This position requires IAT Level II certification, which includes at least one of the following certification requirements:
 
  • CCNA Security - Cisco CCNA Security Certification
  • CySA+ - CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst
  • GICSP - GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification
  • GSEC - GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) certification
  • Security+ - Security+ CE
  • CND - Certified Network Defender (CND) Certification
  • SSCP - Systems Security Certified Practitioner | (ISC)²

Technical and security expertise is critical for the overall execution and success of the program. Candidates for this position must possess experience that meets or exceeds the following minimum requirements:
 
  • Technical experience with Air Force Network (AFNET) and AFNET-S.
  • Hand-on experience as an engineer providing operations and maintenance for UC/Voice network solutions.
  • Hand-on experience and expertise providing installation, deployment, monitoring, configuration, and security support for UC and Voice technologies and solutions.
  • Experience with the following UC/Voice technologies:
 
  • Automated Call Director, T-Metrics (TM PC-Server)
  • Enterprise Fax, Callware Callegra Fax (Dell PowerEdge R730 – VMware ESXi platform running (2K12 R2, 2K16, and future releases and RHEL 7.6 virtual servers)
  • Voice Mail/Auto Attendant, integrated into the AS5300
  • Crash Line, Sonexis Call Blaster (Intel R1304JP4OC)
  • Real Time Monitors Inc (RTMI) Switch Expert for management of the UC/Voice environment.
  • RedSky E911 solutions for the AS5300 platform.
 
  • Experience with core voice services to include, but not limited to:
 
  • Business Voice
  • A voicemail system
  • Enterprise Faxing capability
  • Automated Call Director (ACD)
  • Secondary Crash Net is software driven audio-conferencing capability
 
  • Voice Network Management experience with core processes and services that include:
 
  • Performance Monitoring
  • Problem Management
  • Cybersecurity, in a server and storage environment
  • Change Management
  • Configuration Management
  • Continuity of Operations
